Luleå

This location is mentioned in the following paragraphs:

(§464) 21st. Departed from the old town of Piteå and arrived in the evening in the new town of LULEÅ.

(§472)

The Prefecture of Luleå

(§478) New Luleå is a very small town and lies on a peninsula situated within a bay. The soil is rather infertile. The town stands on a small eminence of jumbled rocks filled in with sand and rubble so that it looks as if the sea has eaten away all the topsoil that used to be there - rather as if some predator has left only the bones behind, that is the stones, after throwing sand over them so that no one could see them.

(§479) I left New Luleå at 11 o'clock since there was nothing to be gained there and, as there was no horse to be had in the town, went by sea to Old Luleå 4 miles away.

(§495) I got silver ore from Nasafjäll here, also the unusual iron ore from Luleå Lappmark that is called Old Man's Silver: still unprospected, formerly exploited a little, now extracted again -gives a 60 percent yield, 7 miles from Kvikkjokk, called Rutivari.

(§498) 25th. At the end of the church service on Sunday I left Luleå for Luleå Lappmark. The LULE river.

(§849) There was excellent iron-ore west of Vallevare, halfway to Kvikkjokk, but it would hardly repay the trouble of extracting it because of the difficult route to Luleå.
