Kalix

This location is mentioned in the following paragraphs:

(§925) 2nd. At GRÖTNӒS, which lies right opposite Kalix church, there is a ferry across to the church. The people of the Lule and Torne districts hold a market by the church.

(§1007) 17th. Travelled from Torneå to Kalix by sea. The wind was against us.

(§1019) 19th. At KALIX market I learned about the commerce of the country, which is unique when compared with almost anywhere in the world in that I fail to see who is deceiving whom. The town trader thinks that he is fooling the farmer but I think he is actually being fooled himself.

(§1029) 10. There are thus no free markets here, there are merely settlement meetings where the trader and the farmer get together at what are called "meeting places". Such as: "In Kalix, the 19th Aug., annually" or "In Torne in Feb.".

(§1039) The district judge in Kalix had 3 swans that were as tame as geese. They had been caught as cygnets.

(§1041) At Kalix I found 1. 'Hippuris ramis bifurcatis' [Mare's-tail], 2. 'Pentaphylloides facies fragariae' [Norwegian Cinquefoil], 3. 'Eruca foliis Sinapi' [Treacle Mustard].

(§1042) There is limestone in the skerries at Kalix and Torneå.
